Keep Your Barcode Valid with Verifier Recertification
Barcodes are only as good as the verifier you use to check them. If your barcode verifier tool isn’t recalibrated every 12 months, your verification results may no longer meet ISO/IEC standards—and that could lead to product rejections, retailer pushback, or supply chain delays.
What is Barcode Verifier Recertification?
Barcode Verifier Recertification ensures your verifier is accurately calibrated and compliant with international barcode verification standards (ISO/IEC 15416 and 15426).
All barcode verifiers, must undergo testing. The testing frequency depends on usage: at least once every two years for infrequent use, and annually for frequent use.

Frequently Asked Questions
I thought barcode verifiers never expire?
While the tool itself doesn’t expire, they require to be checked so that they are still providing results in alignment with the ISO standard. Without this, the verifier may no longer provide accurate results.
Why is my barcode being rejected by a retailer?
Barcode Verification – is about the quality and compliance of the barcode, it meets the industry standards like size, height, contrast and format.
Barcode Validation – is simply checking that the barcode scanned matches the human-readable numbers below it—this process can be done with a regular scanner.
How long does it take for my barcode verifier to be recertified?
It depends on the condition of the verifier. Intermax is certified to perform these tests locally. If the Unit passes the process typically takes within 48 hours from receiving the unit testing and arranging it to be shipped back.
However if it fails, if the results are within repairable tolerance, it will need to go back to the UK for physical repairs and realignment, which can take up to 4 weeks.
Do I get a calibration card with my recertification?
Yes, as part of the ISO standard you need to receive a valid calibration card when your verifier is recertified. This is provided at no additional cost. It is part of the cost of the recertification process.
Can I rent a verifier while mine is being tested?
Yes, Intermax provides rental units for a short period of time. Contact us to arrange one.
My barcode verifier is no longer ISO-compliant. Can I still use it?
We’d recommend against it. When a barcode verifier is out of specification, its results can’t be relied on to confirm compliance with ISO or GS1 standards. If you simply want to check whether a code is readable, a regular scanner can do that—but it won’t tell you if the barcode meets quality or regulatory requirements
